Kejadian 30:33

Konteks
30:33 My integrity will testify for me 1  later on. 2  When you come to verify that I’ve taken only the wages we agreed on, 3  if I have in my possession any goat that is not speckled or spotted or any sheep that is not dark-colored, it will be considered stolen.” 4

Kejadian 42:38

Konteks
42:38 But Jacob 5  replied, “My son will not go down there with you, for his brother is dead and he alone is left. 6  If an accident happens to him on the journey you have to make, then you will bring down my gray hair 7  in sorrow to the grave.” 8

[30:33]  1 tn Heb “will answer on my behalf.”

[30:33]  2 tn Heb “on the following day,” or “tomorrow.”

[30:33]  3 tn Heb “when you come concerning my wage before you.”

[30:33]  sn Only the wage we agreed on. Jacob would have to be considered completely honest here, for he would have no control over the kind of animals born; and there could be no disagreement over which animals were his wages.

[30:33]  4 tn Heb “every one which is not speckled and spotted among the lambs and dark among the goats, stolen it is with me.”

[42:38]  5 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Jacob) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[42:38]  6 sn The expression he alone is left meant that (so far as Jacob knew) Benjamin was the only surviving child of his mother Rachel.

[42:38]  7 sn The expression bring down my gray hair is figurative, using a part for the whole – they would put Jacob in the grave. But the gray head signifies a long life of worry and trouble.

[42:38]  8 tn Heb “to Sheol,” the dwelling place of the dead.
